Endoderm Development Flashcards
1
Q
What does the endoderm form? (10 things)
A
- Pharynx
- Liver
- Urethra
- Prostate (males)
- Lungs**
- Trachea
- Gut
- Pancreas
- Pharyngeal pouches
- Bladder
2
Q
What 2 critical tubes does the endoderm develop?
A
- The digestive tube
- also the origin of the gallbladder, liver and pancreas - Respiratory tube
3
Q
What are the 4 pharyngeal pouches? (important)
A
- Auditory canal for inner ear
- Tonsils
- Thymus and inferior parathyroid
- Superparathyroid
4
Q
What is a diverticulum?
A
A sac or pouch branching from the main tube
5
Q
What is necessary for the specification and the differentiation of endodermal organs?
A
Reciprocal inductive interactions with the surrounding splanchnic lateral mesoderm
6
Q
Is the thyroid derived from a pouch?
A
No, but it is from the endoderm and it migrates posteriorly
7
Q
How is the respiratory tube initially formed?
A
It forms from a bud from the gut tube
8
Q
How does branching occur in lung formation?
A
- FGF10 originally is expressed at the tip of the bud to promote growth.
- Sprouty2 is then expressed and inhibits FGF10 in the middle of the tips to prevent the branch from getting too long
- FGF10 continues to create two new buds now
