Q

Follicle epithelial cell functions (3)

A
  1. Collect and transport iodine to the colloid
  2. Synthesize thyroglobulin and secrete
    into colloid
  3. Release thyroid hormones from thyroglobulin and secrete them into the circulation

Q

Follicular Cell Function

A
  1. Synthesize thyroglobulin and thyroid peroxidase, secrete these into the thyroid follicles together with iodine
  2. Thyroid peroxidase reduces iodine (makes it reactive), allowing it to integrate onto tyrosine residues of thyroglobulin
  3. Follicular cells take up iodinated thyroglobulin from the follicles by endocytosis, extract thyroid hormones by protease action, and release thyroid hormones to the blood
