Endocrine System & Reproductive System RELATIONSHIP Flashcards
What System works with the Reproductive System & HOW?
Endocrine System
hormones allow for cell to cell communication that controls many processes in the Reproductive system
Puberty
A physiological period where hormone levels cause a “growth spurt” & development of secondary sex characteristics
Hypothalamas
Location in brain that integrates the endocrine and Nervous systems
Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH)
Hormone secreted by the anterior pituitary that stimulates development of eggs and sperm in testes
Luteinizing hormone (LH)
Hormone secreted by anterior pituitary that is responsible for
1. Triggering ovulation in ovaries
2. Production of testosterone in testes
Pituitary Gland
Endocrine Gland at base of brain that controls growth and development
Testosterone
Hormone that stimulates Male secondary sex characteristics
NOT CYCLICAL* sperm constantly produce and mature (unlike eggs)
Estrogen
Female sex hormone released by the ovaries
Puberty initiation
Initiated by production of Ganadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) from the hypothalamus which triggers release of FSH & LH from the anterior pituitary.
Luteinizing hormone (LH) in MEN
Signals testes to produce more testosterone
