Endocrine System Blood (Lab 2) Flashcards
What hormones is secreted by the pituitary gland (hypophysis) anterior lobe ?
GH , PRL, TSH, ACTH, FSH, & LH
Growth hormone, prolactin, thyroid stimulating hormone, adrenocorticotropic hormone, follicle-stimulating hormone, & luteinizing hormone
What hormones is secreted by the pituitary gland (hypophysis) posterior lobe?
Oxytocin & Antidiuretic Hormone (ADH)
Which side of the pituitary gland is darker?
Anterior Lobe
Which side of the pituitary gland is lighter?
Posterior Lobe
What does the pineal body secrete?
Melatonin
What structures are in the thyroid gland?
Follicles with colloid, Parafollicular cells, & goiter
What organ & structure in organ secretes thyroxine?
Follicles with colloid in the thyroid gland
What organ & structure in organ secretes calcitonin?
Parafollicular Cells in thyroid gland
What does the parathyroid gland (on thyroid’s side) secrete?
Parathyroid Hormone (PTH)
What structures are in the thymus gland?
Lobules, Cortex, Medulla
What organ & structure in organ secretes thymosins?
Lobules in Thymus Gland
What does the pancreas secrete & what structure?
Pancreatic islets secretes insulin & glucagon
What structures are in the adrenal gland?
Adrenal Cortex & Adrenal Medulla
What hormones are secreted through the adrenal cortex?
Aldosterone, glucocorticoids
What hormones are secreted through the Adrenal Medulla?
Norepinephrine, Epinephrine
What is agglutination?
When antibodies clump to their respectful agglutinogens, if it agglutinates, then it indicates what antigen you have.
(ig: if you have type A blood, your anti-A bodies agglutinate to your A antigens)
What two categories of proteins determine someone’s blood type?
ABO, & Rh
What blood proteins trigger an immune response & what are they called?
Agglutinogens- A, B, & Rh (type O does not create an immune response)
What is agglutinin?
Antibodies against A or B proteins and attacks blood proteins not found on their RBCs
(ig: If you are type A, you have anti-A bodies that attack anything that’s not A blood proteins)
What does Rh negative mean? & how do you indicate it?
You do not have the Rh protein (write A-, B-, AB-, or O-)
ig: You are A negative
