what is the endocrine system?
a series of glands that secrerte hormones
how are hormones transported
through the blood

what does the pituitdary gland do?
releases some hormone to do things
also releases hormones to tell other glands what to release (like TSH(thyroid stimulating hormone))
what does the thyroid gland do
releases thyroxine
how is the level of thyroxine regulated
negative feedback
what does the adrenal gland do
releases adrenaline
increases heart rate (rate of blood pumping)
what do the overies do
produce oesterone
prodces progesterone
what does the pancreas do?
produces insulin which regulates the blood glucose levels
produces gucagon
how does insulin regulate the blood glucose concentration?
the insulin attatches to the receptors on liver/ muscle cells and makes them absorb the glucose and turn them into glycogen
if blood glucose concentration is too high.
how does gucagon regulate the blood glucose concentration?
if blood glucose leveslare too low
binds to liver and muscle
breaks up glycogen into glucose to be released into blood
Diabetes what is teh diefferencve betweentyoe one and type two
type one - life long, body cannot make insulin
type two - cells have become resistant to insulin
treatment for type one diabetes
injecting insulin
exercise so less insulin is needed
treatment for type two diabetes
exercise and healthy diet
