What is Achondroplasia? What causes it?

What is Turners syndrome?
45 XO / shirt stature / gonadal failure / webbing of the neck / coarctation of the aorta (aorta narrows in the area where the ductus arteriosus inserts) / horse shoe kidneys / lymphedema
What is Prader-Willi Syndrome?
Chronic hunger (often leading to obesity), low muscle tone, short stature, incomplete sexual development, learning disabilities, behavioural problems
Investigations in an obese child?
Chromosomal, genetic markers, fasting glucose and insulin, fasting lipids, LFTs, LH, FSH, Oestrogen, Testosterone
What’re some of the symptoms of hypoglycaemia?
Tremors, palpitations, hunger, anxiety, sweating, poor concentration, confusion, fatigue, weakness, convulsions, coma
Symptoms of Diabetes?
Thirsty, Polyuria, Polydipsia
What’s the DKA management?
Correct fluids and electrolytes. Start continuous insulin infusion
What do you need to be cautious of in treating DKA?
Cerebral Oedema
