Q

What happens to your body during a diabetic ketoacidosis?

A

-There is a lack of insulin within the body, so the body can not use glucose for energy.
-The liver starts to make more glucose which builds up in the blood stream.
-The body starts to break down fats as a source of energy which then produces ketones. Ketones then build up in the bloodstream.
- Ketones and glucose get filtered out by the kidneys which results in polyuria as the body attempts to get rid of it all.
