Endocrine Pancreas Flashcards
What are, and what is the function of vasopressin
Vasopressin is an anti-diuretic hormone (ADH) and it effects the permeability of collection ducts in the kidney - the increased reabsorption of water into the blood makes urine more concentrated and loses less water
What six main hormones does the anterior pituitary gland secrete
1) thyroid stimulating hormone = thyrotrophin (TSH) - affects thyroid
2) adrenocorticotrophic hormone (ACTH) - affects adrenal
3) growth hormone = somatotrophin - affects metabolism
4) luteinzing hormone (LH) - affects ovaries and testier
5) follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) - affects ovaries and testies
6) prolactin - affects breast development and milk production
Give examples of releasing or inhibiting hormones
Thyrotrophin releasing hormone (TRH) - stimulates TSH release
Corticotrophin releasing hormone (CRH) - stimulates ACTH release
Somatotrophin releasing hormone (SRH) - stimulates GH release
Somatostatin - inhibits GH release
What do osmeroreceptors do and location?
They control osmolality and sodium ion concentration and are located in the supraoptic and pvn nuclei of the hypothalamus
