A

CARBIMAZOLE: inhibits thyroid peroxidase from coupling and iodinating tyrosine residues on thyroglobulin - reduces thyroid hormone production.

main ADRs of carbimazole?

A
  1. Agranulocytosis - advise pt to seek medical advice if sore throat, mouth ulcers, bruising, fever, malaise…
  2. Crosses placental barrier - but may still be used at low dose in pregnancy if benefits > risks
