What is important in the post op care for hypophysectomy?
no pressure on nose, report nasal dripping- assess for glucose and CSF “halo sign”
If the whole pituitary is removed- what is the replacement hormone?
thyroid glucocorticoid
Posterior pituitary disorder: hypofunction
diabetes insipidus
What happens with diabetes insipidus?
ADH deficiency –> polyuria and dehydration –> thirst
What can cause posterior pituitary disorders?
past surgery, trauma, metastiatic tumors, infections, meds, family hx
What labs are consistent with DI?
^ H and H , ^ sodium, ^ BUN
What teaching points are important when giving inhalation desmopressin?
blow nose BEFORE- watch for headache (hyponatremia)

SIADH
What is SIADH
ADH secreted even when plasma osmolarity is low or normal (SOAKED INSIDE)
SIADH s/s
water retention, HTN, tachycardia, weight gain, concentrated urine, hyponatremia
SIADH interventions
fluid restrictions, neuro checks, vitals
