Endocrine Flashcards
Steroid Hormones
Estrogen, Testosteron, Progesteron,Cortisol, Aldosterone Vitamin D
Amino Acid Hormones
T3,T4, Ne, Epi, Dopamine
The catecholamines act like peptide hormones, and the thyroids act like steroids
Peptide hormones are any of the rest not mentioned, so heres a table.
All steroids come from cholesterol and for the test, know the enzymes.
Very little stored steroid hormones, but a lot of cholesterol stores.
Dependant on G protein coupled receptor.
What type of hormone is biologically active?
Free hormone
90% of steorid and thyroid hormones are…
bound to carrier proteins
Water soluble hormones?
Peptides and AA’s derived hormones/catecholamines (which are a class of aromatic amines like epineprhine/dopamine).
How are peptide hormones made?
rough er preprohormones–>prohormones–>golgi into vesicles–> inc in C2+ or binding of hormone to a receptor will release a peptide hormone.
