ENDO Flashcards
What is stress?
Physical, chemical or emotional factor resulting in tension of the mind and body
What are the adverse consequences of stress on physiologic functions?
Growth, metabolism, circulation, reproduction and immune response
What are the components of the stress system?
Central components: hypothalamus and brain stem
Peripheral components: Peripheral limbs of HPA axis, the efferent sympathetic-adrenal medullary system and components of the parasympathetic system
What are the stress hormones?
Corticotropin releasing hormone, Adrenocortioctropic hormone, glucocortioids
What hormone increase during stress?
Adrenaline, oxytocin, glucagon, angiotensin, and vassopressin
How does stress effect growth?
Decreased Growth Hormone, therefore suppresses growth and delays puberty
What hormone regulate body fluids and electrolytes?
Anti Diuretic hormone, aldosterone, angiotensin ll and atrial natriuretic peptide
What is the major action of antidiruetic hormone?
re absorption of water from the renal tubules
Which increases urine osmolaity and decreases urine volume
What is the major action of aldosterone?
increases Na+ reabsorption
increases K+ excretion
What is the importance of body fluids?
Homeostais, Transport meidum, metabolic reactions and temperature regulation
