End Of Unit Questions Flashcards
Name 3 stimuli which affect humans
Light, chemical, temperature, pain, touch, sound, pressure
What effect does oestrogen have on FSH production
It inhibits it
State 2 internal conditions that need to be controlled
Water, ions, blood sugar, temperature
How are impulses transmitted across a synapse?
Via a chemical
What type of cell detects a change in the environment?
Receptor
Name a plant hormone
Auxin
What is gravitropism?
The response of a root to gravity
Why do plant shoots bend towards light?
Auxin causes the side of the shoot away from the light to grow more so it becomes longer
How does the contraceptive pill work?
It give a woman more oestrogen to stop the production of FSH so no egg is released
Why are FSH and LH given in fertility treatment?
FSH causes the egg to mature and LH causes the egg to be released
Describe the sequence of events in a reflex action?
- Receptor picks up a stimulus
- sends electrical impulse through sensory neurone to CNS me relay neurone
- sends electrical impulse from CNS to effector via motor neurone
Name the 2 main types of effector in the human body
Muscles and glands
