It is used with en (+ present participle) to mean ‘while… -ing’ or ‘by… -ing’:

il s’est endormi en regardant la télévision - he fell asleep whilst watching TV
j’ai eu de bonnes notes en faisant mes devoirs tous les jours - I’ve had good marks by doing my homework every day

how to form it?

Answer 2

1)Take the nous form of the present tense, eg: nous faisons.
Drop the nous and the -ons ending to get the stem, eg: fais.
Add -ant, eg: faisant.
Precede the verb with en, eg: en faisant.
faire → nous faisons → fais → en faisant

j’écoute de la musique en faisant mes devoirs - I listen to music while doing my homework
