EMERGENCY POWER FUNDAMENTALS (US 304) Flashcards
Non Critical Power?
Station load fed directly from local utility company.
Emergency Power?
Used to replace the local utility supply during a power outage.
Critical Power?
Any system or station load that has been identified as mission critical and must have continuous Uninterruptable Power Supplies.
Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS)?
A system which stores electrical power for use during a power outage. These systems come in many shapes and sizes to include the small units normally placed under desks to large units the size 5-10 server racks.
Parallel Redundant System?
A system in which two units share the entire system load. At no time will the entire system be allowed to exceed the capacity of a single unit. In the event of a single unit failure, the second unit is designed to remain online and carry the entire system load.
Emergency Diesel Generator?
A system using a diesel prime mover and an electrical generator to produce electricity.
Main Switch Gear?
A large cabinet that allows us to take one or more power inputs and distribute them to one or more devices. Similar to the way a network switch allows one data connection to be shared between multiple devices
Emergency Breaker?
A main breaker used to tie the EDGs at Satcom to the MSG.
How long without input power does it take for the Generators start at NCTS?
After 5 seconds without input power to the station, the gens will start.
How long without input power does it take for the Generators start at Satcom?
After 10 seconds without input power to the station, the gens will start.
State the time allowed for the EDG to assume a power load with loss of local power.
NCTS Naples -18 seconds
SATCOM - 20 seconds
Number of fuel tanks at NCTS and Satcom?
NCTS Naples - 6 – 4000 gal. Main Tanks, and 4 Day Tanks. Fuel supply will last for 7 days at full load if all tanks are full.
SATCOM - 2 - 4000 gal. Main Tanks, and 2 Day Tanks. Fuel supply will last for 7 days at full load if all tanks are full.
Number of Uninterruptable Power systems at Satcom and NCTS?
NCTS Naples – 5 (2-Paralell Redundant Systems/1-60Hz Bypass)
SATCOM - 2 (1-Paralell Redundant Systems)
Max. Load Capacity at NCTS and Satcom?
NCTS Naples – 120/208VAC 60 HZ @ 320KW/400KVA
SATCOM - 120/208VAC 50HZ @ 360KW/400KVA
120/208VAC 50 HZ @ 320KW/400KVA
