Emergency Drugs Flashcards
Adenosine (Route & Indications)
Route: IV, repeated over 2 min intervals
Indications: Paroxysmal or unstable supraventricular tachycardia (SVT)
Adenosine (MOA, Duration of action)
MOA: Blocks / slows down
conduction through AV
node
Duration of action: within minutes
Adenosine (Adverse effects, Drug-Drug interactions)
AE: Nausea, flushing, headache, bradycardia
Drug-drug interaction:
- Increased effect with dipyridamole
- Reduced effect with xanthines
Adrenaline (Route & Indications)
Route: IV, SC
Indications:
- Treatment of allergic reactions & anaphylaxis
- Treatment of septic shock related hypotension
- Treatment of cardiac arrest
Adrenaline (MOA, Duration of action)
MOA:
- Acts on alpha and beta adrenergic receptors
- Alpha-adrenergic action reduces vasodilation and vascular permeability, preventing fluid loss and hypotension during anaphylaxis
- Relaxes smooth muscles in the bronchi and iris, and serves as a histamine antagonist, making it effective in treating allergic reactions
Duration of action:
- SC may produce bronco-dilation within 5-10 mins
- Maximal effects may occur within 20mins
Adrenaline (Adverse effects, Drug-Drug interactions)
AE:
