Emergencies and Abnormal Ops Flashcards
According to the SOPM, how is an upset condition defined?
An upset is defined as unintentionally exceeding the parameters normally experienced in the line operations or training.
- Pitch Attitude: >25 degrees nose up
- Pitch Attitude: >10 degrees nose down
- Bank Angle: >45 degrees
- Flight within the above parameters, but at an airspeed inappropriate for the conditions.
What are the actions and callouts for the UPSET RECOVERY procedure?
- Recognize and Confirm (Call out UPSET)
- Disconnect Autopilot
- Push. Unload the aircraft to .5 Gs (Light in your seat)
- Roll: Roll in the shortest direction towards the sky pointer.
- Thrust: Use thrust and flight spoilers as necessary.
- Stabilize: Return to a normal flight path.
PM: Monitor Aircraft state and altitude.
- Call out aircraft state - Call out terrain - Notify ATC for the need of a change of altitude/ declare an emergency if necessary.
When correcting for a High Altitude UPSET condition, which pitch attitude is the aircraft boss lowered to?
-5 to 10 degrees nose down
When recovering from a high altitude UPSET condition, what is the minimum airspeed/ Mach number when returning to level flight? 200? 7/900?
- 200: 250/.70
- 7/900: 250/.74
Per the SOPM, rejected takeoffs are typically restricted to what malfunctions?
- Engine Failures
- EICAS Warning Messages
- REV UNLOCKED (200 Caution)
- SMOKE TOILET (200 Caution)
What is the procedure for a rejected takeoff?
-Prior to V1: Captain calls and performs the abort.
- Simultaneously:
- Thrust levers…..Idle
- Wheel Brakes…..Apply
- Thrust Reversers…… Maximum
- CA: Assess situation. Make appropriate PA and evacuate if necessary.
-FO: Advise ATC
What are the FOs actions during a rejected takeoff?
- Monitor Aircraft Deceleration
- Verify Reverse Thrust
3 Advise ATC
- Perform appropriate checklist
What are the Captain’s actions after the airplane is stopped during a rejected takeoff?
- Set Parking brake
- PA: “This is the Captain, remain seated with your seatbelts fastened.
- Initiate either a RTG or evacuation
- Request appropriate checklist
What are the FOs actions after the aircraft is stopped during a rejected takeoff?
- Advise ATC.
- Perform appropriate checklist
What communication statement is made to the FA’s when ecs listing if an emergency evacuation is required?
“Assess and wait for my command”
During an evacuation, where do you direct passengers as the evacuate the aircraft and what emergency equipment is take with you? Where do you stand?
- Direct PAX at least 500’ upwind.
- Bring flashlight, crash axe, fire extinguisher….
- Stand close enough to the aircraft so that PAX can clearly see you but at a safe distance.
Describe how an expedited deplaning is conducted.
- Aircraft must be at the gate with the MCD open and passenger loading bridge or air stairs connected.
- Notify the flight attendants to commence the expedited deplaning.
- PA: “This is the Captain. We will deplane through the main cabin door. Follow your flight attendants instructions.
What QRC/ QRH items require confirmation by the PF during Emergency and Abnormal procedures in flight?
- Thrust levers
- Generators
- Guarded switches
What QRC/ QRH items require confirmation by the PF during emergency and abnormal procedures on the ground?
None
When are O2 masks required to be donned. 100% selected and crew communication established?
- Cabin caution message
- Whenever oxygen deficiency or contamination is suspected.
