A

An upset is defined as unintentionally exceeding the parameters normally experienced in the line operations or training.

  • Pitch Attitude: >25 degrees nose up
  • Pitch Attitude: >10 degrees nose down
  • Bank Angle: >45 degrees
  • Flight within the above parameters, but at an airspeed inappropriate for the conditions.

What are the actions and callouts for the UPSET RECOVERY procedure?

A
  1. Recognize and Confirm (Call out UPSET)
  2. Disconnect Autopilot
  3. Push. Unload the aircraft to .5 Gs (Light in your seat)
  4. Roll: Roll in the shortest direction towards the sky pointer.
  5. Thrust: Use thrust and flight spoilers as necessary.
  6. Stabilize: Return to a normal flight path.

PM: Monitor Aircraft state and altitude.

   - Call out aircraft state
   - Call out terrain 
   - Notify ATC for the need of a change of altitude/         declare an emergency if necessary.

    • Wheel Brakes…..Apply
    • Thrust Reversers…… Maximum
  • CA: Assess situation. Make appropriate PA and evacuate if necessary.

-FO: Advise ATC
