central retinal artery occlusion
a serious eye condition that occurs when the central retinal artery, the eye’s main blood vessel, is blocked
20 mins is all that retina can take w/o oxygen b4 permanent dmg sets in [pt likely to go blind if occluded for 2-4+ hrs]
CRVO
Central retinal vein occlusion … located primarily at posterior pole … may b seen thru out fundus
BRVO
Branch retinal vein occlusion… hemorrhages are located in the distribution of the occluded vein
True emergencies
To b seen within hr
Sudden loss of vision.. penetrating injury… chemical injury…CRAO…etc
Urgent case
To be seen same day
Painful eye… swollen lid…double vision… etc
Priority case
To be seen within days
Halos around lights … head aches… lost or broken glasses … etc
