Embryonic anatomy Flashcards
What is the urachus?
In embryoglogy, the allantois drains the fetal bladder into the umbilical cord - the urachus is the fibrous remnant of this structure
What clinical feature would indicate a patent urachus?
Urine draining from the umbilicus after birth
what umbilical ligament does the urachus form?
the MEDIAN umbilical ligament
What umbilical ligament do the umbilcal arteries form?
the MEDIAL umbilical ligaments
What embryological structure forms the medial umbilical ligament?
umbilical arteries
What embyological structure forms the median umbilical ligament?
Urachus
Where does the median umbilical ligament run?
From the apex of the bladder to the umiblicus
Which fontanelle is diamond shaped and which is triangular?
diamond - anterior fontanelle
triangular - posterior fontanelle
What are the boundaries of the posterior fontanelle?
The occipital bone and two lamboid sutures which separate the parietal bones from the occipital bone
Which suture separates the occipital bone and the parietal bone?
The lamboid sutures
Which suture separates the parietal bones?
The sagittal suture
Which suture separates the frontal from the parietal bones?
The coronal sutures
