Embryology: Upper Face Development & Mid-Face Flashcards
What placodes develop from the lateral to frontonasal process?
Lens Placode
Otic Placode
Nasal Placode
What five structures develop from the frontonasal process.
Forehead Bridge of Nose Nasal Septum Primary palate (premaxilla) Structures associated with medial nasal processes
What does the lens placode give rise to?
The lens placode moves medially to give rise to the eyes.
What does the otic placode give rise to?
It is more posterior and lateral to give rise to the internal ear.
What does the nasal placode give rise to?
It is anteriorly placed just superior to stomodeum to give rise to olfactory epithelium.
What is olfactory epithelium?
Lining involved in the sense of smell.
How is the nasal cavity created?
Developing tissue around nasal placodes submerge the placodes to give rise to the nasal cavity.
How do conchae develop?
Simultaneously
What do medial to nasal placodes develop?
They develop medial nasal processes to give rise to the primary palate, incisors and nasal septum.
What do the lateral to nasal placodes develop?
Lateral nasal processes.
What do the lateral nasal processes give rise to?
Alae of the Nose
Nares
What does the lateral nasal processes combine with to give rise to the nares?
Maxillary and Medial Nasal Processes
What process is associated with Mid-Face Development?
Maxillary Process
Where does the maxillary process arise from?
Arises from the mandibular arch (mesenchyme of neural crest cells)
What will the maxillary process give rise to?
Lateral Portion of Upper Lip Cheeks (zygoma) 2nd Palate Canines & Some posterior teeth Portions of the temporal bone
