Embryology Flashcards
What is the allantois?
Outpouching of endoderm at the hindgut that extends into the body stalk
What is a cloaca?
The single posterior opening for a birds digestive, urinary and repreouctive tracts
What does the cloaca divide to form?
Rectum and the urogenital sinus
What does the urogenital sinus form?
The urinary bladder and the urethra
At week 4 what does the intermediate mesoderm form and where?
The pronephros in the neck region and the
Mesonephros in the trunk region
What is the pronephros made of?
Pronephric duct and rudimentary pronephric tubules
Where does the pronephric duct drain?
Into the cloaca
What does the pronephric duct become with the mesonephros develops?
The mesonephros duct
Where do the mesonephric tubules drain?
Mesonephric duct
What week does the metanephros start to develop?
About week 5 and starts to function around week k9
What does the metanephros consist of?
A ureteric bud that develops off the mesonephric duct, metanephric mesoderm
What happens to the mesonephros?
It is incorporated into the developing gonad
In a male what does the mesonephric tubule become?
Rete testis
In a male what does the mesonephric duct become?
The vas deferens
In a female what do the tubules and mesonephric ducts become?
They degenerate but the mesnephros become the ovary
What do the first 4 generations of braches from the ureteric bud become?
The major calyces
What can the relationship between the ureteric bud and metanephric mesoderm be described as?
They Reciprocally induce each other
What is the nephron made up of?
The renal corpuscle + proximal convoluted tubule + DCT + loop of Henle
What is the nephron formed form?
The metanephric mesoderm
What is the uriniferous tubule made up of?
Nephron + collecting duct
What is the collecting duct, calyces, pelvis and ureter developed from?
Ureteric bud
What does the ureteric bud from?
Collecting duct, calyces, pelvis, ureter
Why do the kidneys rise?
Due to differential growth of abdominopelvic structures
What postion does the hilium of the kidney rotate to?
From ventral to medial and at 90 degrees
What are some anomalies of the kidney that can occur embryologically?
Congenital polycystic kidney, aberrant renal arteries, lobulated kidney, transposition of kidney, horseshoe kidney, pancake kidney
