Anatomy Flashcards
What are the 5 main functions of the urinary system
Removes metabolic waste from blood, regulates plasma electrolytes and BP, helps stabilise pH, reabsorbs small molecules, produced erythropoietin
What level can you find the kidneys?
T12-L3
When looking at a transverse section what are the layers surround the kidney? Outer to inner
Pararenal fat, renal fascia, perirenal fat, renal capsule, Kinsey
What are the constrictions of the ureter?
As it passes over the renal pole, when it crosses over the external iliac vessels, when it transverses the bladder wall and sometimes when the ureter passes behind the testicular or ovarian vessels
What are the branches of the renal arteries?
Segmental branches, interlobar, arcuate branches, interlobular branches
What are the 5 branches os the segmental branch of the renal arteries?
Apical, anterosuperior, Antero-inferior, posterior, inferior
Where do the renal veins drain?
Into the IVC
WHat is the lymphatic drainage of the kidney?
Lateral aortic ln
What is the nerve supply of the kidneys?
The renal plexus- sympathetic: T10-L1, sensory afferent: T11-L2
What are the different parts of the male urethra?
Preprostatic, prostatic, intermediate and spongy
What is the widest part of the male urethra?
The prostatic part
What is the narrowest part of the male urethra?
The membranous part of the urethra
What is the longest part of the urethra?
The spongy part of the urethra
What is the arterial supply of the bladder?
Branches of the internal iliac artery
What is the vein drainage of the bladder?
The internal iliac veins
What are the lymphatic of the bladder?
External iliac lymph nodes: suprapubic part, the internal iliac lymph nodes: infrapubic part
What is the nerve supply of the internal urethral sphincter (constrict)
Sympathetic T11-L2
What is the nerve supply of motor to the ferris or muscle
Parasympathetic S2-S4
What is the nerve supply of the external urethral sphincter
Somatic: pudendal nerve
What makes up a nephron?
Renal corpuscle + renal tubules
What makes up a renal corpuscle?
Glomerulus + bowmen’s capsule
What makes up a uriniferous tubule?
Nephron + collecting duct
What type of epithelium are proximal and distal convoluted tubules and collecting tubes
Cuboidal
What type of epithelium is present in the ureter and the bladder?
Transitional epithelium
