What is the first system to function in the embryo?
A
CVS. The primordial heart starts to beat at the beginning of week 4. This is due to the rapidly growing embryo - nutrition by diffusion is not enough to satisfy the growing embryo.

What is the difference between vasculogenesis and angiogenesis?
A
Vasculogenesis is blood vessel formation in situ. Angiogenesis is when vessels sprout and branch from existing vessels.

What are the stages of blood vessel formation in the embryo?
A
Differentiation of mesenchymal cells, angioblasts, blood islands, small cavities appear within blood islands then endothelial-lined cavities fuse to form endothelial channels.
