Embalming 1 Exam 4 Equipment Flashcards
Embalming machine, porcelain- quiet; duetonic – only one moving part; dodge has flowmeter. Most have pulse feature; A motorized injector used to create positive pressure as required in vascular embalming
PRESSURE MACHINES
Built into water control unit. Used for cavity treatment and aspiration; uses water pressure to create a vacuum for removing fluid materials from the body.
HYDROASPIRATOR
Used for cavity treatment, uses electricity instead of water vacuum for removing fluid materials from the body.
ELECTRIC ASPIRATOR
Non electric, uses gravity, only hold about 1 gallon at a time; consists of a gravity bottle with tubing attached, that is suspended at a desired distance above the point of injection.
GRAVITY PERCOLATOR
A hand operated double action pneumatic pump which is used to create pressure for embalming purposes and aspiration; Invented by Holmes; 2 sided, barrels and plunger used for injection/aspiration in embalming.
HAND PUMP
A method of creating injection pressure that consists of a bulb type syringe and rubber tubing; 1 direction of flow, use with tubing for sudden surge of pressure.
BULB SYRINGE
Used to reduce swelling of the deceased by the application of heat. It will also dry moist tissue and smooth out facial wrinkles; Use with restorative was for unnatural features
ELECTRIC SPATUAL (tissue reducer)
Used to dry hair of deceased, hooded and on wheels
HAIR DRYER
Hydraulic lift with 4-6 straps to lift deceased; designed to eliminate the physical strain of moving caskets and bodies by hand.
BODY LIFTS
To kill all bacteria and viruses Heat/pressure is autoclave – (shown) or you can use chemicals; complete destruction of all living organisms, including cells, viable spores, and viruses.
STERILIZERS
Used to position deceased during embalming and casketing for better viewing
POSITON DEVISES – HEAD REST & ARM RESTRAINTS
Able to lower ends, has water grooves and drainhole. Dressing – collapsible, used to dress and cosmetize, not usually grooved or with holes; A) Embalming-preparation room equipment on which human remains are placed for the embalming procedure.
B) Dressing–preparation room equipment which is specifically designed for the dressing of the deceased.
EMBALMING TABLE DRESSING TABLE
Put tolls, instruments, cosmetic/restorative use Can be portable
UTILITY TABLE
Cooler for body storage, can be walk in or not; Should keep at 40 degrees F but not freeze; water freezes at 32 degrees F damage occurs when freezing occurs.
A device used to keep a dead human body cool enough to inhibit bacterial activity
REFRIGERATION UNIT
OSHA approved with continuous water flow to clean eyes from exposure for at least 15 minutes.
EYEWASH EQUIPMENT
