Dribbling
Leakage of urine despite voluntary control of urination
Retention
Accumulation of urine in bladder without the ability to completely empty
Residual
Urine remaining post void >100 mL
Different colors of urine are caused by
- dark yellow
- red/ pink
- brown
- orange
- milky white
- blue
- green
- purple
dark yellow (dehydration)
red/ pink (blood)
brown (bile/ rhubarb)
orange (TB medications/ lots of carrots)
milky white (loss of WBC, too much red meats)
blue (propofol)
green (tagamet, elavil)
purple (purple bag syndrome)
Condom catheter
applied to the tip of the penis and attached to a collection bag (looks like a chicken cutlet sticky flower)
PureWick
lays between the labia and attached to a suction device (blue hotdog w/ white in the middle)
Foley catheter
inserted into the bladder and attached to a collection bag (3 attachment tube)
Characteristics of Urine
- color
- clarity
- odor
- odorless

- indicate intake/ lack of fluids

- will appear cloudy if pathogen is
present
