An element of art that is the path of a moving point through space. Although they vary in appearance with differing lengths, widths, textures, directions, and degree of curve, they are considered one-dimensional and are measured by length. It is also used by an artist to control the viewer’s eye movement.
Line
A two-dimensional enclosed area. It can be geometric or free-form organic.
Shape
Objects having three-dimensions. Like a shape it has height and width, but also depth. It can be geometric or free-form organic.
Form
The element of art that describes the lightness or darkness of an object. It depends on how much light a surface reflects
Value
An element of art that is derived from reflected light. The sensation is aroused in the brain by response of the eyes to different wavelengths of light. It has three properties: hue, value and intensity.
Color
The element of art that refers to the emptiness or area between, around, above, below, or within objects.
Space
The element of art that refers to how things feel, or look as if they might feel if they were touched. It is perceived by touch and sight.
