The element of art that is derived from reflected light. The sensation is aroused in the brain by response of the eyes to different wavelengths of light. It has three properties: hue value and intensity.
Color
The name of a color in the color spectrum. It is related to the wavelength of reflected light. A property of color
Hue
A property of color describing the lightness or darkness of that color
Value
The brightness or dullness of a hue. One of the three properties of color
Intensity
A light value of a hue made by mixing the hue with white. Opposite of a shade
Tint
A dark value of a hue made by adding black to it. Opposite of a tint
Shade
Red, yellow, blue. Cannot be mixed from any other colors
Primary colors
Orange, green and violet. Created by mixing two primary colors together.
Secondary colors
Red-orange, red-violet, yellow-orange, yellow-green, blue-green, blue-violet. Six colors in all. A color made by mixing a primary color with a secondary color
Intermediate colors
The effect that occurs when light passes through a prism; the beam of white light is bent and separated into bands of color. Colors always appear in the same order, by wavelengths, from longest to shortest: red orange, yellow, green blue, violet
Color spectrum
A spectrum bent into a circle
Color wheel
Finely ground, colored powders that form paint when mixed with a liquid binder.

The first color picked for a color scheme or the dominant color in a color scheme
