Elements,Compunds And Mixtures Flashcards
What is an element?
An element is a substance that cannot be further broken down into more substances even by chemical methods.
How do scientists break a substance?
Heat or electricity can be used to breakdown or decompose a compound for example when electricity passes through molten sodium chloride it decomposes to give the elements Sodium and chlorine.
What are the classification of elements by State?
Elements can be classified by their physical state at room temperature and pressure. Of the 92 naturally occurring elements 11 at gases the remaining 79 are solids and some are metalloids.
What are elements made of?
Elements are made of either atoms or molecules.
What is an atom?
An atom is the Smallest unit of an element having the property of the element.
What is a molecule?
Molecule is two atoms chemically bonded together.
What are compound?
A compound is two elements chemically bonded together
Example water H2O
What is an Ion?
An electrically charged atom is called an ion
