Elements, Compounds And Mixtures Flashcards
What Is An Element?
An Element is a substance that consists of only one type of atom and cannot be broken down into simpler substances by chemical means.
What is An Atom?
An atom is the smallest part of an element which can exist.
What Is A Molecule?
A Molecule is two or more atoms chemically bonded together
What Is A Compound?
A compound is a substance that consists of two or more different elements chemically bonded together.
Element
only one type of atom cannot be broken down into simpler substances by chemical means. Contains atoms.
only one type of atom ( joined together). Contains molecules.
Compound
A substance containing of two or more different elements chemically bonded together.
Contains molecules.
Mixture
it contains two different elements/substances that are not chemically joined together. Contains atoms
What Is Alloy?
An Alloy is a mixture of two or more elements, at least one of which is a metal, and the resulting mixture has metallic properties e.g. Brass and Steel
