Means of escape

A
  • Stairs and passageways should be kept clear, be well lit and appropriatley marked
  • Doors on an escape route should open in the direction of travel and be maintained to ensure effective smoke seal
  • Emergency lighting, if provided should be regularly tested and maintained and should be backed up by an emergency power supply
  • Exit and directional signs should comply with legislative standards, have appropriate pictograms and be easily seen
  • Assembly points are safe refuge areas in a buildiing or in the open air. They should be clearly marked and kept clear
