Electrostatics Flashcards
Positively charged
Electrons are removed making the object electron deficient
Negatively charged
Electrons are added giving the object an excess of electrons
Electrostatic force
The force exerted by static charges on each other
Elementary change
The amount of charge carried by One Electron
Equations
Qnew = q1+q2/ 2
🔺Q = qfinal-qinitial
Q=ne
Principle of conservation of charge
The net change of an isolated system remains constant during any physical change
Coulomb’s law
Two point charges in free space or air exert forces on each other. The force
is directly proportional to the product of the charges and inversely proportional to the square
of the distance between the charges.
Electrical field
A region of space in which an electrical charge experiences a force. The
direction of the electrical field at a point is the direction that a positive test charge would
move when placed at that point.
Electric field strength
The force per unit positive charge.
