Electrophysiology Terms G-M Flashcards
Ground
a conductor used in an electric circuit to establish an arbitrary zero
Guide Wire
a coiled spring designed to fit inside a percutaneously inserted catheter or lead introducer and to facilitate placement within a vessel or heart
Header
the portion of the pulse generator containing the connector blocks to accept the leads
Hemostasis
cessation of bleeding
HIS bundle Electrogram
recorded using an endocardial bipolar or multipolar catheter
HV interval
the period of time required for a wave of depolarization to travel from the AV node to the His bundle
Impedance
the total resistance tothe flow of current through a conductor, including resistance produced by tissue and by electronic components.
ICD
A device intended to be permanently implanted into the body, capable of recognizing ventricular tachycardia or ventricular fibrillation and delivering electrical therapy to terminate the arrhythmia
Implantation
any of the various surgical procedures to insert an arrhythmia control device
Inhibition
A type of pulse generator response in which the output of the pulse is suppressed when an intrinsic event is sensed during the alert interval
Insulation Break
a crack, tear or other compromise tot the integrity of the lead insulation
Intracardiac Electrogram
the recording made of the cardiac electrical activity from an electrode catheter placed in the heart
Interrogation
the telemetry process of receiving information from an implanted pacemaker or ICD.
Interval
the period of time, measured in ms, between any two designated cardiac events
Intrinsic
inherent or belonging to the heart itself
Introducer
an implantation tool that facilitates the insertion of leads into the vascular system
Joule
the international unit of measurement for energy work
Macroreentrant Circuit
any reetrant arrhythmia circuit which travels through a relatively large volume of tissue
Ex/ WPW
Microdislodgment
Displacement of the lead resulting in a marked rise in capture threshold but not apparent on a chest xray
Milliampere (mA)
the basic unit of measure of the pacing output pulse current
Millivolt (mV)
the basic unit of device sensitivity
Monomorphic
having a single, unchanging shape
Monophasic
Having a single phase
Morphology
The shape of a waveform protion
Multifocal rhythm
an atrial or ventricular intrinsic rhythm originating from more than one focus, or any arrhythmia caused by this
