Q

What are DIL ICs?

A

Dual In Line ICs. Use through hole technology. Pins are assembled linearly. More pins require greater chip size.

Q

What are SMT ICs?

A

Surface Mount Technology ICs. Solution to DIL. Pins are soldered to top of PCB instead of through hole. They can have a higher pin count, cheaper and smaller.

Q

What are area array packages?

A

Pins are on bottom of chip therefore less space taken up by pins. Solder connections cannot be inspected.

What are axial through hole components?

A

To wire connections on the same axis. Typically Rs and Ds and placed on a bandolier.

Q

What are radial through hole components?

A

Two or more parallel wires? Typically Cs and Ts. Harder to be detected by machines Usually taped with sprocket holes.

Q

What are local fiducials?

A

marks to identify where to place a component. Often used for vision systems to accurately identify placement position for fine pitch components
