Electronics Flashcards
What is the symbol for Current and the unit
I
Amps(A)
What is the symbol for Volatage and the unit
V
Volts
What is the symbol for Resistance and the unit
R
Ohms (Ω)
What is the formula for ohms Law?
I = V/R
What does PCB stand for?
Printed Circuit Board
What type of metal is used on a PCB?
Copper (Cu)
What is the name of a circuit practice testing board?
Bread Board
How do you calculate the total resistance from 2 resistors?
RTotal = R1 + R2
What does the gold tolerance band mean?
Gold Band = +/- 5%
What does the silver tolerance band mean?
Silver Band = -/+10
If you want the circuit to react with more temperature/light where would you put the thermistor/LDR

What is a Resistor also known as?
Fixed Resisitor
What is special about the Variable Resistor?
They can have their resistance changed by turning the controller.
What does LDR stand for?
Light Depending Resisitor
What decides on the strength of the resistance in a LDR?
Strength of Light
What decides on the strength of the resistance in a Thermistor?
The temperature
What is the formula for a voltage divider
. R Bottom
V out = ————————— X V in
R Bottom + R Top
What are with the 3 legs of a transistor?
. Collector
Base
. Emitter
What are the 3 legs of a thyristor?
. ㅤ Anode
ㅤ
Gate
ㅤ Cathode
What special rule does a transistor follow?
While under 0.7V electricity gets directed away from the output device through the emitter leg.
While at 0.7V or above the electricity is directed towards the output device via the collector leg.
When electricity drops back to under 0.7V the transistor automatically redirects the power to the emitter.
What special rule does a thyristor follow?
While under 0.7V electricity gets directed away from the output device via the cathode leg.
While at 0.7V or above the electricity is directed towards the output device via the anode leg.
When electricity drops back to under 0.7V the thyristor has to manually be deactivated to allow the electricity to be redirected to the cathode away from the output device.
What does LED stand for?
Light Emitting Diode
What is a diode used for?
Allow current to flow in only 1 direction
Protect a output component such as a motor.
Prevent back EMF (electromotive force)
What are the legs on components made out of (LED)?
Lead
What is the longer leg of a LED?
Anode or +ve lead
What is the shorter leg of a LED called?
Cathode or -ve lead
What are LEDs always used with and why
Resistor
Protect the component from a large spike in electricity
What is a spst switch?
Single Pole Single Throw (Single Pole ON/OFF)
What is a SPDT Switch
Single Poll Double Throw (Single Pole changeover)
What are the 6 types of switches?
Micro
Push
Rocker
Slide
Toggle
Reed
What is used to solder components onto a PCB?
Soldering Iron & Solder
