What is an electromechanical instrument?
A
Modified instruments of acoustic instruments that use acoustic principles to produce their sound, but are only barely audible without amplification

A
- Electric pianos are keyboards that can be amplified
- Hammers strike tines and forks are picked up by transducers for amplification
- The two most popular include the fender Rhodes and the Wurlitzer EP200

What is the electric organ
A
- Associated with gospel and soul music
- The Hammond Organ uses tone wheels to create its sound, which are then amplified
- The hammond organ is closely associated to the Leslie speaker, that creates a moving tremolo sound as it rotates

What is the clavinet?
A
- Was invented in the 60s to allow players to create guitar-like tones
- It has a series of strings that are plucked when the key is pressed which are then amplified using pickups
- Has close association used with Stevie Wonder who used it a lot in the 70s

What is the mellotron?
A
- An early form of sampler
- As a key is pressed a piece of tape plays back. recording of that note
- It couldn’t record any additional sound
- Was used in The Beatles Strawberry fields.
