EQ and Filters Flashcards
What are the 4 types of EQ?
Parametric,
Semi-Parametric, Dynamic, Graphic and Shelving
What is Parametric EQ?
A parametric EQ offers gain control over any frequency within a range
What is Semi-Parametric EQ?
A parametric equaliser without one or more features. Typically the bandwidth Q has a fixed setting.
What is Dynamic/graphic Eq?
- Boost or attenuate a range of fixed frequencies
- More band provide higher accuracy
- Not as effective surgery work as parametric
- Graphic EQ generally used to make broad changes
What is shelving Eq?
- Most basic type of Eq
- Boost or attenuates frequencies above or below specified cutroff point
What is a high-pass (low cut) filter?
Progressively reduces the level or audio frequencies below a specified cutoff frequency
What is a low-pass (high cut) filter?
Progressively reduces the level or audio frequencies above a specified cutoff frequency
What is cutoff frequency?
Determines which frequencies will pass unaffected and which will be removed
The cutoff point of a filter is that at which there is how much gain reduction?
3dB gain reduction
What is resonance?
A boost of the amplitude around where the frequency is getting cutoff.
