Electromagnetism - Chapter 8.1 – 8.3 Flashcards
Describe magnetism in terms of domains, and
how electric currents can generate magnetic
fields
The electric current produces the magnetic field because it also has motion due to the movement of electrons from a negative to a positive end.
Show how magnetism works with the right-hand grip rule
If you point your pointer finger in the direction the positive charge is moving, and then your middle finger in the direction of the magnetic field, your thumb points in the direction of the magnetic force pushing on the moving charge.
Name the components of a motor and describe
how it works.
The stator, which is fixed and the rotor, which moves. It also has two electrical components, magnets set and an armature, one of them is attached to the stator and the other to the rotor, together making a magnetic circuit.
Describe how a generator works
An electric generator works by converting mechanical energy into electrical energy
