What does Faraday’s law of induction state?

A

The extent of the electromotive force induced in a coil is proportional to the rate of change of the magnetic flux.

Q

State Lenz’s law.

A

Lenz’s law states that the direction of current induced in a coil by a varying magnetic field is such that the resulting magnetic field from the coil opposes changes in the original magnetic field.

Q

What is mutual inductance?

A

A varying magnetic flux is produced due to varying current. Thus, if two coils A and B with varying current are placed side by side, then the varying magnetic flux in A is able to produce an emf in B, and vice versa. This phenomenon is known as mutual inductance.

Q

What is self inductance?

Q

Relate the induced electromotive force of a coil with the mutual inductance of the system.

A

E = M • (∆ip/∆t)

Where ∆ip is the current of the coil inducing the emf

And E is the emf induced.
