electromag induction Flashcards
1
Q
Electromagnetic induction
A
- when a conductor’s magnetic field interacts with another magnetic field, voltage is induced
- strength of potential difference depends on:
→ strength of mag field
→ rate of cutting
→ turns in the coil
2
Q
Generator
A
- coil is rotated within a magnetic field
- as it turns the coil cuts the magnetic field lines
- this induces a voltage/current in the coil
- this can be connected to an existing circuit
- KE to Electrical E
3
Q
Transformer
A
- AC current in primary coil
→ produces a changing magnetic field around said primary coil - Iron core channels(amplifies) changing field, through to the secondary coil
- voltage is induced in secondary coil
4
Q
Step up and down transformers
A
- Step up Ts inc voltage, more SECONDARY turns than primary
- Step down Ts dec voltage, more PRIMARY turns than secondary
(self explanatory, more to less v is more prim than sec turn)
5
Q
Voltage and turns ratio
A
Vp/Vs = Np/Ns
Voltage over voltage = turns over turns
