Practical: temperature time graph

A
  1. Fill beaker with crushed ice. Use a thermometer to monitor temperature
  2. Heat with a bunsen burner
  3. Using stopwatch, record TEMP and STATE every 30seconds
  4. Continue until water has been boiling for a minute
  5. Plot graph of temp against time.
    → constant temperature should be seen when ice melting, water boiling.

Investigate SHC of materials

A
  1. Place beaker on digital balance and set to 0
  2. Add 250ml water and record mass of water using digital balance
  3. Put immersion heater and thermometer in water
  4. Connect circuit with:
    → ammeter in series with power supply and immersion heater
    → voltmeter in parallel with immersion heater
  5. Record initial temperature at 0s
  6. Turn on power supply, set at 10V and start stopwatch
  7. Record voltage and current
  8. Continue to record V and C every 60 seconds for 10 minutes
  9. Calc E supplied and temperature change
