What drugs cause low Mg
A
Diuretics and PPIs
3
Q
Why does hypercalcaemia cause low Mg
A
Ca and Mg functionally compete for transport in the thick ascending loop of Henle

Features of low Mg
A
(Sim to hypocalcaemia)
- Paraesthesia
- Tetany
- Seizures
- Arrhythmia’s
- Decreased PTH secretion -> hypocalcaemia
- ECG features similar to hypokalaemia
- exacerbates digoxin toxicity
