A

Ca and Mg functionally compete for transport in the thick ascending loop of Henle

Features of low Mg

A

(Sim to hypocalcaemia)
- Paraesthesia
- Tetany
- Seizures
- Arrhythmia’s
- Decreased PTH secretion -> hypocalcaemia
- ECG features similar to hypokalaemia
- exacerbates digoxin toxicity

A

Split into < and > 0.4mmol/L
>0.4: = Oral mg salts
<0.4 = IV mg
