Electrolysis Flashcards
1
Q
Why can electrolysis not occur when sodium chloride is solid but when it is molten
A
-When an ionic compound is solid the ions can’t move so electricity can’t be conducted
-When an ionic compound is molten it can conduct electricity as the ions are free to move.
2
Q

A
An orange vapour is given off.
