Electrochemistry Flashcards
Standard electrode potential
Standard electrode potential, Eo, of a standard half-cell is the potential difference, measured at 298 K, between a standard hydrogen electrode and a half-cell in which the concentration of any reacting species is 1 mol dm–3 and any gaseous species is at 1 bar.
Standard cell potential
The standard cell potential is the potential difference between the half-cells of a cell in which the concentration of any reacting species is 1 mol dm–3 and any gaseous species is at 1 bar.
standard hydrogen electrode
An unreactive platinum electrode immersed in a solution of 1 mol dm-3 hydrogen ions.
Hydrogen gas is bubbled over the platinum electrode into the solution at 1 bar and 298 K.
