Electricty Flashcards
Electric current
the rate of flow of charge
I = Q/t
potential difference
the work done by each coulomb of charge traveling between two points on a circuit
V = W/Q
Resitance
a measure of how current is restricted through a component
R = V/I
Power
Rate of energy transfer. P = E/t
emf (Electromotive force)
Joules of energy the battery transfers from chemical energy to electrical energy per unit charge
terminal p.d.
V (as opposed to v)
potential divider
A method of splitting potential difference by connecting 2 resistors in series. Total p.d is split in the ratio of their resistances
potentiometer
Potential divider when a variable resistor is used instead of fixed resistor and thermistor/LDR. Useful when need continuous values for output voltage e.g. stereo
