Electricity Unit Test Flashcards
What is the law of Attraction and Repulsion?
Particles with OPPOSITE charges attract
Particles with LIKE/SAME charges repel.
What are Lightening rods and how do they work?
Lightening rods are tall rods on a roof that attract lightening and safely direct the electricity through cables into the ground
What is resistance?
The resistance of a substance to the flow of electric current.
What is current?
The amount of electric charge that flows through a specific point.
What is an ampere?
The number of changes that go through a certain point in the circuit each second is calculated.
What is voltage?
The difference in the amount of electrical energy between two points in a circuit.
Tidbit #1 about voltage
The higher the voltage, the greater the stored electrical energy that is provided to each electron
Tidbit #2 about voltage
Voltage id measured using a voltmeter (Search what it looks like 🔪)
What are insulators?
An insulator is a solid, liquid, gas that resists or BLOCKS the flow of electrons (EX: dry wood, glass, plastic)

Facts about Parallel Circuits
- When one part disconnects, it still works
- Longer and broken up in “sections”
- Most electrons will follow the path with least resistance
Series Circuits
- Their components are arranged one after another
- Only has 1 path for electrons to flow
- if it “disconnects” it stops functioning
- amount of current is the same in all parts of series
- adding na extra bulb will make all bulbs dimmer
What are fuel cells?
- Generate electrical energy
-Produces no pollution (unlike fossil fuel)
Direct current
Direct current (DC) occurs when the current flows in one constant direction
Alternating Current
AC happens when the flow of electricity changes direction regularly.
