Electricity Test Flashcards
What is the voltage unit ?
Volts
What is a live (active) wire ?
Wire which carries electricity in it
What is a neutral wire ?
Wire which completes the circuit back to the power source.
What is the earth wire ?
Wire which connects the outer metal parts to the ground (earthing) to prevent electric shock.
What appliances have 3 pin plugs and why ?
Electrical appliances with a metal case need to be earthed to prevent electric shock. They have 3 pin plugs.
What appliances require 2 pin plugs and why ?
Appliances with an insulating case do not need the earth wire so they have 2 pin plugs.
A 10amp fuse will ?
Allow a current of up to 10amps to flow through it before it melts.
Circuit breakers are ?
Tripped when too much current flows through it. Circuit breakers do not need to be replaced.
What is the voltage symbol ?
V
What is the current symbol ?
I
What is the resistance symbol?
R
