electricity review Flashcards
what happens in a cell to create voltage?
a chemical reaction causes electrons to gather in one location and creates a pull/ pressure to move away from each other
what do you call the negitave side of a battery?
anode
how does voltage affect the current in a circuit? why?
greater voltage= greater current, bc it goes faster
whats resistance and how does if effect the current in a circuit?
decreases the push/pressure of electrons and makes current weaker
whats the term current and what are 2 ways to increase current in a circuit?
current is flow of electrons
-add higher voltage
-decrease resistance
what are conductors vs insulators in terms of resistance?
conductors make electrons flow easily
insulators resist the flow of electrons
what are the rules for calculating voltage in series vs in paralell?
in series you add them together
in parallel they stay the same
what happens to the current of a circuit when you add lamps in parallel?
current increases because more pathways
what is mA to A?
divided by 1000
what is A to mA?
times 1000
what do you call the positive side of a battery?
cathode
