Electricity And Chemical Change Flashcards
What is a conductor
A substance that lets electricity pass through it, since the substance contains charged particles (electrons or ions) that are free to move. The moving particles carry electric currents.
What are insulators
Substances that don’t let electricity to pass through
What is the electrode
A rod of metal or graphite through which an electric current flows into or out of an electrolyte
What is the electrolyte
The ionic compound in a molten or dissolved solution that conducts electricity
What is the anode
The positive electrode of an electrolysis cell
What is an anion
The negatively charged ion which is attracted to the anode
What is the cathode
The negative electrode of an electrolysis cell
What is the cation
A positively charged ion which is attracted to the cathode
