Electricity Flashcards
What is the current
It is the flow of electrons
What is a conductor
A material which allows electricity to pass through it
What is an insulator
A material which doesn’t allow electricity to pass through it
What is a short circuit
A circuit which has very low resistance, causing the circuit to set on fire
What is voltage
The voltage is the amount of electricity you are putting through the circuit
What is resistance
Resistance is the measure of how much force is slowing the flow of electrons
Draw out the circuit symbols
Draw them
What is a series circuit
It is a circuit in which the current across the whole circuit is the same but the voltage is split across all the components
What is a parallel circuit
It is a circuit which has two or more pathways. The current splits before joining back again at the other side of the circuit. If one bulb blows in a parallel circuit, the other bulb(s) will stay on
What is an electromagnet
It is a magnet which can be turned on and off. You can also vary the power of an electromagnet, depending on the voltage you put across it.
Give two ways to make an electromagnet stronger
Increase the number of coils you use to make it an electromagnet. Increase the voltage you put into the coils.
Give five examples of household items that use electricity
Could be: Xbox, kettle, phones, electric car, lights, electric instruments etc.
What is current measured in
Amps
What is voltage measured in
Volts
What is resistance measured in
Ohms
