Electricity Flashcards
What is the difference between a series circuit and a parallel circuit?
A series is one complete loop whilst a parallel has branches it splits into.
What is the effect of adding more bulbs or cells to a series circuit
More bulbs- each one gets dimmer as they have to share the current
More cells- each bulb gets brighter
What is the effect of adding more bulbs to a parallel circuit?
The bulbs will be equally bright and stay the same
What is current?
The rate at which electrical charge is flowing
What is voltage?
The amount of energy the cell gives to each electron is given to move around the circuit.
How does Voltage behave in series
The voltage throughout each component adds up to the voltage of the battery
How does current behave in series
The same throughout the whole circuit
For a series circuit with a 6V battery with a 2A current connected to 2 identical bulbs, describe the:
• Voltage across each bulb
• Current through each bulb
- Voltage - 3V across each bulb
* Current - 2A at all points
How does a fuse keep us safe
It keeps the current at a stable level and helps prevent fires. It melts when too much current flows and breaks the circuit.
